Went to Nawlins over the weekend, we flew out from Love Field early Saturday morning, and got back late on Monday.  This was the first time I spent more than one night there.  I’m not sure why the place is awesome, but it is.  It was oppressively hot, humid, stinky and dirty, but there’s something about the place that resonates on a deep level.  Even with all the kitschy tourist crap there’s a lot of depth there.

We didn’t do a whole lot, and staid mostly in the French Quarter.  I think we gained a lot of experience about traveling to Nawlins, and maybe next time we’ll be more adventurous, now that we kind of have a feel for it.  I’m not sure when Mitzy will be willing to go back, but hopefully next Spring or Fall.  Like I said, the heat was bad, but we drank a lot of water and walked around about as much as could be expected.  By Monday we were kind of getting the hang of it I think, stopping every so often and having a cold beer, or just having a sit down for awhile.  I’ve lived in Dallas too long, and you have to be willing to move a little more slowly.

We trekked through the Garden District and Magazine Street on Sunday, which was a bad idea in that most everything was closed.  It began as a well intentioned jaunt, but ended up being a bit of a death march.  We had thrown around the idea of renting bikes or mopeds, but ended up taking the trolley.  The trolley was my idea, and it seemed like a good one, but once off the trolley there’s lots of walking to be done.  With the shops closed we just wandered onward, we almost stopped and had a drink as Ms. Maes, but it was too smokey, so we ended up at the ShoutOut Cafe, which must be fairly new by the Google Street view.  It wasn’t a waste though, Mitzy and I got a sno-cone at a little joint called Sno Wizard Sno Ball Stand.  When we came upon it we noticed quite a crowd around the store front, so we decided to stop and partake.  We got a rasberry sno ball and a dreamcicle cream, and they were both very yummy.   A few blocks later our strength was sapped and we were in need of refreshment, so we stopped in at the Bulldog.  This was pretty spiffy little spot, and we had a pitcher of Abiti Light.  Let me tell you, in the chilled pint glasses that was the best tasting beer ever.  Shortly after that we made our way back to the trolley line and called it a day.  We tried to go out later, but we were all just too pooped.

Dang..better attend to work.  More later maybe.
