Arthur C Clarke dies at 90
Sad that he died, but you can’t feel to bad for the man. I can’t help but feel certain the boatman won’t dicker him on the price. ![]()
It is impressive the amount of vision he possessed and how he used that to craft what is some of the most premier science fiction ever created. After reading the article I was somewhat amused though that he predicted man getting to the moon by 2000, yet he had HAL coming online around 1996.
I haven’t given it a lot of deep research, but I get the sense that the mood of science fiction is one of eminent demise. I find myself thinking right now that perhaps we’ve reached the point in our civilization where we’ve lived with technology, the future, for so long that it no longer really impresses us. We’re no longer mesmerized by what the future holds in store, no longer held in awe to dream of what may one day may be possible, we simply expect it now.
